“The striking thing about Andy is that he writes a book on networking that demystifies the process and shows you all the things you know you should be doing - but never really get round to. Then he surprises you by practising what he preaches! ”
Russ King, Product Manager, Monster.com
“Of all the events I've organised, I have never received so much unsolicited thanks and positive feedback as I did following this. ”
Emma Mortimore Membership Secretary, One Alfred Place
“Andy is an energetic presenter who quickly captured our audience's attention. The content of his presentation was excellent and fostered lively commentary and questions. We will definitely have Andy back for another session and are looking for other ways to partner with him. ”
Jennifer Rademaker, Head of Strategy Development Europe, MasterCard
“Andy was a guest speaker at one of European Young Professionals networking events in London in 2007. The 400 people who showed up were blown away by Andy's presentation and it was in fact one of the key reasons behind EYP London's early success. ”
Nick Jonsson, Founder, European Young Professionals
“I've had the benefit of being mentored by Andy and he has provided enormous value. His style is both supportive and challenging whilst being very engaging, and the techniques he teaches are extremely practical and valuable. ”
Derek Bishop, Culture Consultancy ltd
“Andy certainly made a difference on how I normally approach / perceive events such as this. ”
Ann Azzopardi, Category Buying Manager, Pret a Manger
“Andy has successfully elevated networking into more of a strategic arena ...................rather than it just being a "skills" thing. ”
Phil Jesson, Director of Speaker Development Academy for Chief Executives
“It was the best talk I’ve ever been to. Loved the content, pacing, delivery, structure. Your message was very memorable (imparting that much information can leave listeners forgetting what was said) and you managed the balance between substance, detail and memorability well. ”
Rebecca Aguilar, BBC Worldwide
“Andy Lopata’s insights into referrals and networking should be taught in all induction programmes. Networking and referrals should not be thought of as another sales skill or tactic, but as part of the company’s values and culture. ”
Ignacio Hernandez Managing Director, EMEA, Currencies Direct Limited
“Andy has a can do and flexible attitude and is happy to develop and shape the content in line with the clients changing needs. Feedback from participants on Andy's workshops has been consistently very positive. ”
Una Murphy, Manager BBC Careerlink
“ ”
Tracy Johnson, Marketing Services Director, Eventia
“"In the three months since Andy delivered his sessions, I've noticed a clear change in the approach taken by everyone who participated. We have already received a number of referrals as a result." ”
Andy O'Sullivan, Head of Sales - Hospitality, Wembley Stadium
“There are many motivational speakers on the circuit who leave behind them just a short lived glow and then there are the subject matter pragmatic, passionate presenters who can potentially change the long term way their audience thinks or operates. I’d put Andy Lopata in the latter category. ”
Trevor Salomon – Director, Corporate Marketing, IFS
“Andy has worked with my business partner and me for a number of months as a referral and networking coach. Our business has demonstrably grown due to the new techniques and skills learned through working with Andy. ”

An Auction for Charity that comes Highly 'Recommended'

Earlier this week I must admit that a tear or two appeared after the postman had been. No, it wasn't my income tax bill but an advance copy of my new book, Recommended: How to Sell Through Networking and Referrals, direct from the publisher, Pearson Education.

I hadn't anticipated such an emotional response to a book landing on my doorstep, but when you consider that the project has been more than 18 months in the making, perhaps it's not so surprising.

I shared my joy, and the picture above, with my network on both Facebook and Twitter and was overwhelmed by the positive response. Thank you everyone.

Perhaps the most interesting response was from the renowned cosmetic doctor Dr. Ravi Jain of The Riverbanks Clinic. Ravi tweeted me to ask how much I would charge for an autographed copy of the first edition.

I'm not allowed to sell copies ahead of publication date (although you can pre-order on Amazon!), however I suggested to Ravi that if he were to donate £50 to the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity I would send the book to him. Ravi agreed and I tweeted a thank you.

That's not the end of the story though. Actor, comedian and presentation skills coach Steve Trister saw my thanks to Ravi and proceeded to up the stakes, offering £60.

I'd obviously like to make as large a gift to the charity as possible so, with Ravi's agreement I've opened up the auction! I'd like to welcome all bids for the autographed advance copy of the book above that came in the package from my publisher.

If you're interested in participating and supporting a worthy cause, please post your bid below, or on Twitter using #RecommendedtheBook. I'll update regularly details of the leading bid.

The auction will close at midday next Friday, 8th July.

Recommended is published on July 20th.

I want to up the ante...

I'm really keen now to raise as much money as possible for The Rainbow Trust. With that in mind, if the bidding reaches £200, I will also donate a one hour telephone coaching session on any manner of networking or referral strategy the caller wishes.

That can range from how to pick, and get results from, the right networking group or social networking site, through how to network within a large organisation or for a new job, to how to generate high quality referrals.

The session can be used by the bidder, transferred to a friend, client or colleague, or donated back to the charity for their use.

As the auction reaches it's last three hours it's got very interesting.

Thank you for your bid Vanessa. Unfortunately I had two bids late last night which have sent the leading bid higher.

Massimiliano Turci bid £220 at 10.30pm last night on Ecademy, followed by an email at 12.30am from Mark Duffy taking it to £300.

So the current leading bid is £300 and the auction closes at midday. Do I hear £315?

And the winner is...Mark

And the winner is...Mark Duffy with a bid of £300.

Mark gets the signed advanced copy of Recommended plus a telephone coaching session with me.

The real winner though is The Rainbow Trust Children's Charity, who gain £400, courtesy of Max Turci's generous donation as well as Mark's generous bid.

Thank you everyone for participating. And don't forget you can pre-order the book for yourself at the much lower price of £7.94 on Amazon (price as of now, RRP £14.99)
